Only Our God is Great!

We hear much today of world religions proclaiming their God as great and greater than the god's of other world religions. Islam cries out possibly millions of times daily, "Allahu Akbar"- "Allah is the Greatest!" Is the god of Islam the God of Christians? There can be only One God and One Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. (I Timothy 2:5) In this week's sermon from Psalm 8: Pastor Pete opens the Scriptures to proclaim from King David the Psalmist: "Only Our God is Great!" (God's Glory and Man's Dominion) - 1. God's Splendor Over All. Psalm 8:1; 2. God's Strength Over All. Psalm 8:2; 3. God's Sovereignty Over All. Psalm 8:3-8 and 4. God's Supremacy Over All. Psalm 8:9. Bring it Home! Listen for Life.

“A Heart Cry For Divine Justice” Part Two

Have you ever been unjustly accused or charged with a crime? You most likely felt a little like King David must have felt when a host of enemies surrounded his life and throne. Injustice is something we all have to deal with and in fact if we call ourselves believers we will have more than our fair share of conflict. Where is God in all of this! What did King David cry out to the Lord for when facing trials and unfounded accusations on his life and character? David's heart cry included four appeals to God: 1.) Save Me! (7:1, 2); 2.) Search Me! (7:3-5); 3.) Support Me! (7:6-9) and 4.) Shield Me! (7:10-17) Where and to whom will you go and what will you do when falsely and unjustly accused? Listen for Life!

A Prayer for God’s Mercy

Today our society, our hospitals and psych wards are full of people who are overcome and overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow over their sin. Does their sorrow lead them to true godly repentance? Often those who live their lives with unconfessed sin end up medicating their guilt and never find for themselves the peace and confidence God freely offers to all of us through His mercy and grace. The solution for a great many of us is very simple: Confession is good for the mind, for the body and for the soul. Confession to God first and foremost and then, when appropriate, to others we have wronged. Pastor Pete unpacks the first of David's penitent psalms in Psalm 6:1-10. " A Prayer for God's Mercy" - (The Conquering Power of Confessing Sin) - 1.) The Great Problem of Unconfessed Sin. (Psalm 6:1-7); 2.) The Great Power of Confessed Sin. (Psalm 6:8-10) Listen for LIFE!

A Morning Prayer For Guidance

Pastor Pete returns this week to the series on the first book of Psalms 1-41. This week: Psalm 5: "A Morning Prayer for Guidance" (How to Get Ready, Get Set and Go) first thing in the morning. We must start our day being prayerful, being real and receiving with thanks God's blessings. We often get distracted first thing in the morning thinking about ourselves, our agenda, our needs and we forget to give God the first place in the best part of the new day. Along with the Psalmist this psalm, (song) is a wonderful exhortation to believers on how to start each new day. Listen for LIFE!

“Hear Me When I Call, O God”

Remembering that many of the Psalms of David are songs to be sung in a choir with stringed instruments we can almost catch the tune here of David’s heart as he laments the heart of God and the hearts of unbelievers. Even people of faith often lose heart. We need to be reminded often of God’s presence and His heart as He pursues us we must in turn pursue Him. Often we give up and give in to unbelief and our light, joy, gladness of heart, peace, sleep and even our safety eludes us. Once again we must come to Him seeking to learn of Him and from Him, calling on Him, agreeing with Him, listening to Him in order to serve and trust Him once again. Our God is altogether trustworthy. God will indeed hear us if we call on Him. He is waiting for us… are we waiting for Him? Listen for Life!

A Shield in Times of Trouble – Part Two

Last time Pastor Pete took us into the historical background of Psalm 3: and the coup of King David’s son, Absalom. In this message we will see a shadow of Christ Himself as He rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday knowing the promise of betrayal and yet able to ride triumphantly into a City that would in just one week’s time put Him to death by crucifixion. Sermon Outline: Our complaint, v. 1,2; Our Confession, v. 3,4; Our Conviction, v. 5,6; Our Commitment, v. 7; Our Confidence, v. 8. As we come to this psalm and God plucks at our heart strings, we must pause to “SELAH” and make the necessary adjustments to our hearts and lives. Listen For LIFE!

A Shield in Times of Trouble

Have you ever woke up facing battles not of your own choosing? Conflicts left and right, from work, from family, from friends who’ve deserted and forsaken you, maligned you and even hated you? King David, the Psalmist, woke up one morning with the realization of the horror of his kingdom taken from him through the treachery of his son Absalom. Those loyal to his kingdom and rule had been lured away and their hearts stolen by his son. It doesn’t get more tragic than this! What do we do in the face of such betrayal, trouble and heartache? David pours out his heart, in Psalm chapter 3: before God then and before us as we see him surrounded by his enemies, shielded by his God, sustained by his God, saved by his God and ultimately surrendered to his God. Take comfort in the Word of God for your life today. Listen for Life!

The HIGH KING of HEAVEN

Psalm 2:1-12 is a Messianic Psalm describing the collective hatred of mankind in rebellion against the rule and authority of God over men. This Psalm sets the record straight as to Who is in authority and in charge over the affairs of men. The High KING of Heaven is not One to be trifled with or to be tempted with sedition, rebellion and treason. We must all (“Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and perish in the way.” - Psalm 2:12a) In a time where it seems as if all hell has broken lose and the kings of the earth are cutting down the righteous in world-wide persecution and hatred of Christ and of believers, we all must be reminded once again that God is still on His throne and orchestrates over the affairs of men. (“He who sits in heaven shall laugh, the LORD shall hold them in derision!” – Psalm 2:4) This message is one we all need to hear again and again to set our minds straight as to the true war and battle in the heavenlies over truth and righteousness. Take hope and comfort in the One true Ruler over the Universe, “The HIGH KING of HEAVEN! (“Now, therefore, be wise O kings; be instructed you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling.” - Psalm 2:10,11) – Listen for LIFE!

Two Ways, Two Roads, Two Destinations Part Two

Last time Pastor Pete introduced the first book of Psalms (Psalm 1-41) with Psalm 1:1-6, “Two Ways, Two Roads, Two Destinations” – (The End of the Ungodly and the Way of the Righteous Compared). In this message we concentrate our attention on the characteristics of the way of the Righteous Man who knows God, believes God and follows hard after God. These two messages serve as the Gate Keepers for the rest of the Psalms and a clear Biblical definition of true and false salvation. Which way, which road and which destination are you on?
